Stonecap Trading (Pty) Ltd is the current sole shareholder of both Atlas Crane Hire, in Gauteng, established in 1974 by the Dickson family and Hanmag Crane Hire in the Northern Cape, acquired in 2013. To realise its own transformation objectives as well as that of the government, it enlisted the help of Africaneur IQ (AIQ) – a pre-eminent specialist in B-BBEE formation and operations. In order to embrace and realise this amalgamation for the transition, Kopana Crane Hire (Pty) Ltd, a 51% black owned company, was created in 2021 to fulfil this goal together with the Dickson family, owning 49%.
The company boasts a fleet of over 40 mobile cranes ranging in size from a 7 ton truck mount to the largest being a 440 ton Liebherr all-terrain crane. Our offering includes of a mix of rough terrain, all terrain and truck mounted hydraulic mobile cranes, affording us the ability to service heavy lifting requirements within various market. We will fulfil our intention to provide specialist lifting equipment to satisfy requirements across the lifting spectrum with a focus on the heavy lifting end of the market.

Our team of dedicated employees have a wealth of knowledge of our industry, many of which has been part of Kopano Crane Hire in excess of 15 years. Approximately 60 employees strong, our combined experience within each division of our company, be it sales, operations or technical representation, continues to make Kopano Crane Hire one of Southern Africa's top crane operators. With experience from crane driving across a diverse set of industries to project types, our team is intimately familiar with mobile crane operations. Because we believe that a company is only as strong as its people, we're committed to employing the right people at all levels with an in-depth knowledge of the discipline, resulting in successful undertakings year in and year out.

Our institutional knowledge provides us a unique edge to provide a full turnkey and unique one-off solution. The entrenched relationships with related service providers in the industry, ensures that our customers are well able to testify our ability to get the job done efficiently and timeously thus rendering a cost-effective service. As we transition, we will carry through the same level of service to some of our existing clients and enjoy the support of new ones. Crossing Borders
Whilst we primarily operate within South Africa, we are familiar with working further afield and have undertaken numerous engineering, construction and mining projects in Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana and Zambia, increasing our footprint throughout Southern Africa.

To this we are proud of Kapano Crane Hire, a new company that is 51% black owned which will take us forward to fulfil our strategic objectives. We are excited about the team that will shape our future, lifting our service for industry and clients alike.
Going Forward
Ed and Graham Dickson remain the operational responsibility of the company with additional support of Moganetsi Motsisi and in this respect, new medium-term objectives have been established, namely; to see the company grow through modernisation and expansion of the fleet and to maintain and upgrade the scope and quality of service whilst simultaneously introducing empowerment of staff through profit sharing and bonus incentive schemes:
- Atlas is currently a Level 7 B-BBEE contributor
- Hanmag is currently a Level 3 B-BBEE contributor
Kopano Crane Hire is the Level 1 B-BBEE amalgamated entity which is 51 % Black owned to fulfil the change and transition of the planned strategy, this will ensure that we focus on current clients and markets further afield.
